Korg OASYS Restore Disks

Korg OASYS Restore and Upgrade disks

Many people that have acquired a Korg OASYS in recent years have contacted me because the keyboard that they have bought does not come with any disks to allow them to restore the Korg OASYS to operation should the hard disk become corrupted.

Restore Disks 1.0.1

Operating system 1.0.1 is the version of the operating system that was released with the Korg OASYS on launch.  This set of 4 CD's will restore the existing hard drive or for a virgin new hard disk to the base operating system.  You would also use these disks to restore the OASYS to a Solid-State Drive (or SSD).

These disks would have been in the box with the synthesiser when it was delivered new by Korg.  If your Korg OASYS is still at the release version of the operating system, then I would recommend that you have a set of these in the cupboard.

If you cannot acquire the OASYS Restore 1.0.1 disks you can buy them here.

Restore Disks 1.3.1

The last set of restore disks released by Korg for the OASYS was a set of 4 CD's that would restore the synthesiser to operating system 1.3.1.  This was not the last version of the operating system released before Korg discontinued the OASYS, but you will need these disks if you want to restore the OASYS to the last operating system release (See Updater 1.3.3a).

These disks would have been available from the local Korg service centre while the Korg OASYS was in production.  However, many have reported to me that they have struggled to acquire these disks in recent years.

If you cannot acquire the OASYS Restore 1.3.1 disks you can buy them here.

Updater Disk 1.3.3a

The updater disk was the last operating system disk issued by Korg and will update the Korg OASYS to operating system 1.3.3a.  This was the last operating system released by Korg for the OASYS synthesiser.

To apply this update, you will need to have installed operating system version 1.3.1 prior to running the update process.

The final update of the operating system fixed several bugs that were found in version 1.3.1.  I am a little sketchy on the timetable of the release of this final update, but I believe that this disk was released at the point the synthesiser was discontinued.

If you cannot acquire the OASYS Restore 1.3.3a disk you can buy it here.

EXs3 The Final Sound Engine

As part of the withdrawal of the Korg OASYS from the market, Korg made all the chargeable engines on the OASYS free.  These included the EXs3 engine.  This engine was supplied as a separate set of 2 installation CD's which could be loaded onto the OASYS, independent of the version of the operating (i.e. base version 1.0.1, 1.3.1 or 1.3.3a).

Rumour has it that Korg intended to include this engine in the final operating system update. But for whatever reason this didn't happen.  I have never found anyone that could confirm or deny this.

If you cannot acquire the EXs3 Sound Engine disks you can buy them here.

Complete upgrade

To do a complete upgrade of and to ensure you can restore to the latest version of the operating system (1.3.3a) and ensure all the available sound engines are installed you need to have 7 CDs in your disk box.

If you cannot acquire all the disks required to perform the complete upgrade, then you can buy them here.

Licence Codes

At a minimum you will need to have the operating system licence code in your disk box.  You may need this to perform an operating system upgrade, but you will need it for a full restore.

All codes for the Korg OASYS are tied to the OASYS hardware and are therefore individual to each synthesiser.  This stopped OASYS owners trading codes between themselves to licence the elements of the synthesiser.  However, given the withdrawal of Korg OASYS support this now means you need these to be able to support the keyboard.

If you do not have this code, then you will need to contact Korg in Japan to obtain this.  You will need to supply them with the Public ID which you can find in the system settings.  They may ask you for proof of purchase if the OASYS was previously registered by a previous owner.

If you need to contact with Korg for licence codes then also request the codes for the LAC, MOD and EXs3 engines.
