Self Healing Workstation Cutting Mat

I have found that good quality Workstation Cutting Mats are an invaluable tool in my workshop.  I use both A2 and A3 cutting mats in the workshop and these can be purchased for about £25 for an A2 mat and £10 for an A3 mat.

Why are these useful:

• They protect the surface of the workstation from whatever you are doing.  The classic being solder or the tip of a soldering iron that would burn you workstation.

• The mats can be cleaned easily with either water, water with detergent or cleaning products.  I often use label remover and Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) on my mats and they clean off easily after use.

• The mats are self-healing which means that you can cut materials directly on them without damaging the workstation beneath.

• When they get scruffy you can through them away and replace them with a new mat.  I can tell you that I have been using mine for nearly 5 years and they are still fine.  I guess if you do a lot of work then you will go through yours quicker then me.

The bottom line is that I paid a lot for the workstation that I used and replacing the cutting mat is cheaper than replacing the workstation tops.
