How I updated the Operating System on the OASYS
When I acquired my Korg OASYS I was surprised to find that the previous owner had not performed a single upgrade to the operating system. The previous owner was a gigging musician and was selling the OASYS and a Korg M3 at the same time which I wish I had the money to also buy.
The OASYS (Open Architecture Synthesis Studio) is a software driven synthesiser. Built around a core computer operating system and then a series of software driven synthesis engines loaded into the computer that provided it with the framework to generate the complex sounds associated with this instrument.
This type of software driven synthesis is now standard on most keyboards, synthesisers and workstations. (Of course this is the principle behind the modern VST operation.) But at the launch Korg OASYS was a departure from those that came before it.
The intention was to allow different software houses to augment the sound engines in much the way many musicians but VST plugins for their computer. Sadly, this never became reality,
On acquisition, my Korg OASYS was at operating system version 1.0.1 (as shipped from the factory. The last version released by the Korg for the OASYS was 1.3.3a.
Plus, a year after the keyboard was discontinued Korg provided free licences to the LAC, MOD and EXS3 engines. Despite being 20 years old with everything switch on this is a formidable keyboard to have in your studio.
This sequence of videos is how I upgraded my Korg OASYS to be fully functional.

With the operating system on the OASYS at 1.3.3a the OASYS LAC and MOD engines have been loaded in a demo mode.
If you register your OASYS with Korguser.net then you entitled to authorise these OASYS engines to full operation for free.
This is how the authorisation is undertaken on the OASYS.
Update 2020-11-16: A number of features have been depreciated from korguser.net. In order to get the updates you will now need to contact Korg support with your Korg OASYS public ID so that they can generate the keys for you.

This is the final upgrade from Korg for the OASYS. It takes the OASYS operating system to version 1.3.3a.
This upgrade loads in the LAC and MOD7 sound engines for the OASYS, but only in a DEMO mode.
Korg forgot to include the OASYS EXs3 engine, so that needs to be loaded in separately!

When I purchased the OASYS it was on the base operating system version 1.0.1. For many reasons this needed to be upgraded to a latest version.
The last official operating system version for the OASYS was version 1.3.3a. However, everything did not go smoothly! Watch the video to see what went wrong!
This video makes reference to getting authorisation codes from the KorgUser.net website. However, since the video has been recorded the KorgUser.net site has been deprecated and a number of you have referenced that you can no longer find the functions. You may therefore need to ring your local Korg support office.
